Grape varieties are the single largest block of the Level 2 syllabus and the one that rewards drilling most, because the questions are rarely about the grape in isolation. They ask what it tastes like where, what the winemaking usually does to it, and which of two similar varieties you are looking at.
Work through this until the markers arrive without effort: the lychee that means Gewurztraminer, the petrol that means aged Riesling, the tar and roses that mean Nebbiolo. Then take the full mock exam and see whether the score moved.
Common questions
Level 2 works through roughly twenty principal varieties in depth, ten white and ten red, plus a wider set you meet through regional study. The specification is less about the count than about being able to link a variety to its body, acidity, tannin, typical aromas, and classic regions, which is exactly what the questions here test.
It draws from the same audited question bank, but filtered to grape varieties only, so every question here is on one topic. The full mock exam samples the entire syllabus at the real exam's length and weighting. Use this to fix a weakness and the mock exam to measure whether you fixed it.
Consistently above 80% on a topic quiz is the point where that topic stops costing you marks. Below 65% and it is worth going back to the [cheatsheet](/wset/level-2/cheatsheet/) before drilling further, because more repetitions will not fix material you have not learned yet.
