Rogue Valley is southern Oregon’s river-basin AVA, including the Applegate Valley.
The Rogue River and its Bear Creek, Applegate and Illinois tributaries connect several growing environments. Maritime influence is stronger toward the west, while inland sites become warmer and drier. Vineyard soils and exposures vary across those valleys. The documented mix includes Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Gris, Syrah, Viognier, Chardonnay and Merlot. The Rogue Valley designation therefore does not imply that every site has the same heat, elevation or ideal grape mix.
