Southwest-facing slopes contribute to Red Mountain’s warm growing environment. Nearby river influence brings airflow, while nighttime cooling creates a contrast with daytime heat. Sandy loam and gravel soils are characteristic. Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah are documented plantings. The name denotes a folded ridge rather than a high mountain landscape. Red Mountain lies within Yakima Valley, which in turn belongs to Columbia Valley.
