Long Island is a New York AVA with a maritime growing environment and smaller appellations on its eastern end.
The surrounding waters distinguish Long Island’s growing environment from inland New York. The regional association documents Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot and Sauvignon Blanc among its varieties. Long Island contains the North Fork of Long Island and The Hamptons, Long Island appellations, so those names identify more specific origins. The broad AVA should not be treated as interchangeable with either of its smaller areas.
