Leelanau Peninsula is a northern Michigan AVA on the shores of Lake Michigan.
Leelanau’s position beside the Great Lakes is central to its wine-growing identity. The peninsula is a distinct AVA, separate from Old Mission Peninsula to the east. Michigan’s official tourism account specifically identifies Pinot Blanc, Pinot Gris and Riesling with Leelanau. These are useful documented examples rather than an exhaustive vineyard inventory. Water, location and local growing conditions help explain why the region should be considered on its own terms instead of through a generic statewide grape list.
