Hermann is a Missouri River AVA within the larger Ozark Mountain appellation.
Hermann’s vineyard history reaches back to German settlement in the nineteenth century. Norton was established here by the 1840s and remains part of the region’s wine identity. The AVA covers parts of Gasconade and Franklin counties, making it a more specific geographical designation than Missouri alone. Historical reputation is useful context, but present-day wines still vary with vineyard, season and winemaking.
