Grand Valley is a high-elevation AVA in western Colorado’s Mesa County.
Grand Valley’s vineyards occupy a dry western Colorado setting rather than the humid eastern wine-growing environment. Summer days can be hot, while nights are cool. The industry board places the AVA at roughly 4,000-4,500 feet above sea level. These environmental facts explain its distinct location without implying that every Colorado winery uses Grand Valley grapes. No current varietal ranking is supplied without an AVA-specific planting source.
