Eola-Amity Hills sits northwest of Salem, directly exposed to cooling air through the Van Duzer Corridor.
The main north-south ridge and its lateral spurs create a range of vineyard aspects in Eola-Amity Hills. Afternoon air passing through the Coast Range via the Van Duzer Corridor helps cool grapes during ripening. Volcanic basalt, marine sedimentary rock and lower-elevation alluvium contribute to the soils. Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Riesling and Gamay are documented plantings. The AVA belongs within Willamette Valley while giving a more precise account of this wind-influenced hillside environment.
