Build your plan

Sommo study planner

Most study plans fail for the same reason: they are built backward from how much material exists rather than forward from how much time you actually have. Then week three arrives, you miss two sessions, and the whole schedule becomes a document you avoid opening.

This one starts from your exam date and the hours you can genuinely give it, then allocates weeks by how heavily each topic is examined. Every week comes with a link to the free drill for that block, so revision has somewhere to go.

What to do with the plan once you have it

Print it, or export the CSV and drop it into whatever you already use. Then treat the weekly focus as a boundary rather than a target: the point of the schedule is not to cover everything, it is to stop you spending five weeks on the region you enjoy while an entire unit goes untouched.

Two rules make plans like this survive contact with real life. Never move the exam date to fix a missed week, move the hours. And keep the last week clear for revision even if the schedule slips, because the final seven days are worth more as retrieval practice than as new reading.

For what to do inside each session, the Level 2 and Level 3 guides break down the syllabus, and the topic quizzes turn a weak area into a drill.

Common questions

How does the planner decide what to study when?

Each level has a syllabus weighting behind it: how much of the exam a topic accounts for, and therefore how many weeks it deserves. The planner gives every block at least one week, then hands the spare weeks to the heavyweight topics first. The final week is always revision, because cramming new material in the last seven days is how people fail things they knew.

What if my exam is sooner than the recommended runway?

The plan compresses rather than dropping topics. Every syllabus block still appears, just for less time, and the revision week survives. If the compression looks brutal on screen, that is useful information: it is telling you to either raise your weekly hours or move the exam.

Why does it ask how many hours a week rather than in total?

Because total-hours figures are what people quote and weekly hours are what people do. A plan built on twelve realistic hours a week beats a plan built on a hundred aspirational ones, and the weekly number is the only one you can hold yourself to.

Can I export the plan?

Yes. The CSV button downloads the whole schedule with the drill link for each week, which imports cleanly into a spreadsheet, a calendar app, or a task manager. Nothing is uploaded to us: the file is generated in your browser.

Does it cover the Court of Master Sommeliers too?

Yes. Alongside WSET Levels 1 to 4 there are plans for the Introductory and Certified Sommelier exams, weighted the way those syllabuses are, with links to the matching free practice exams and flashcard decks.

Paper is a start

A printout cannot quiz you back.

Sommo turns the same material into daily practice: spaced repetition, adaptive sessions that target your weak areas, and a wrong-answer bank that never lets a gap slide.
