Chapter IIIOn price

Less than a glass
of decent wine.

A free tier you can use forever. A Premium plan with two flavours: $5 a month, or $2.50 a month if you pay yearly. No tricks, no creeping price ladders, no dark-pattern surcharges.

Sommo is built and run by one person. There is no VC clock to satisfy, which means there is nothing to gain from nickel-and-diming you. The price is what it actually costs to run the AI, plus a small margin to keep building.

Two ways to pay. $5 a month if you go month to month. $2.50 a month effective if you pay yearly ($29.99 once, not split). Either way, every Premium tool is unlocked.

v.Questions

Questions you'd reasonably ask.

i.
Why is it so much cheaper than other wine apps?
+
Because the AI is owned, not rented. Most apps that advertise AI features pay a frontier provider per query, and pass that cost (plus a margin) on to you. Sommo runs on its own model, hosted in-house, so there's no per-question tax. The price you see is what it costs to run, plus a small margin to keep building. No VC clock, no growth team to feed.
ii.
Is the AI just ChatGPT behind a wine logo?
+
No. Sommo runs on its own model, trained on wine instead of the open internet. It's a growing AI, refined every week with new data, fixes, and sharper reasoning. The plain-language version is on Under the Hood. Technical write-ups are on the maker's blog: how the model came together and how the grounding works.
iii.
Does the AI hallucinate?
+
Less than a generic chatbot would. Every recommendation is checked against a hand-maintained wine library, so the wineries Sommo names are wineries that actually exist. When the model genuinely doesn't have grounded data for a wine, the app says so rather than inventing. See what Sommo cannot know for the full list.
iv.
Free trial?
+
Three days, no credit card upfront. You'll get the full Premium experience: unlimited scans, the cellar, AI pairing, WSET prep, character analysis. Cancel before day 3 and you won't be charged.
v.
What happens to my journal if I downgrade?
+
Your entries are kept for 30 days on Free, gated not deleted. Renew Premium any time and the full history comes back. Sommo doesn't destroy your data to coerce subscriptions.
vi.
Can I share Premium with my partner?
+
Yes. On iPhone and iPad it's Apple's Family Sharing; on Android, Google Play's Family Library does the same. Either way your subscription reaches up to five family members at no extra cost.
vii.
Is there a web version or Android app?
+
Android, yes. A native Android app, a full port of the iPhone version with the same wine-tuned AI, cellar, journal, and WSET suite, is on Google Play now. Sommo runs on iPhone, iPad, and Android (iOS 17+, Android 10+). A web companion is still on the roadmap.
viii.
Do you train your model on my journal?
+
No. Your tasting notes power your own wine character analysis only. They are not used to retrain the public model, sold to third parties, or shared with anyone outside the app. The base model is trained on public wine corpora (Wine Enthusiast reviews, Wikipedia, food-pairing datasets), not user data.
ix.
Do you sell my data?
+
No. Sommo doesn't have an ads model, an affiliate-pumping model, or a data-broker contract. Read the privacy policy →
x.
How do I request a refund?
+
Through the store you bought it from. On iPhone and iPad that's Apple (reportaproblem.apple.com); on Android it's Google Play. Both policies are generous and Sommo won't try to talk you out of it.
