Short
≈ 40 words

Sommo is a pocket sommelier on iPhone, iPad, Android, and the web, built on proprietary wine-tuned AI the maker builds and owns. Version 2.0 re-set the whole app as an editorial object, with a 3D cellar wall as its centrepiece. Independent, made in London, free with optional Premium.

Medium
≈ 130 words

Sommo is a personal wine app that turns wine curiosity into expertise. It runs on proprietary wine-tuned AI the maker built and owns, grounded in structured wine data and refined every week.

Point your camera at any bottle for AI tasting notes, pairings, and region context. See your cellar as a 3D wine wall: bottles in depth lanes, glass coloured by the wine inside, drinking-window collars on every neck, and drag-and-drop moves by hand. Describe a meal and the right bottle gets picked from your own collection. Sommo also includes full WSET Level 1 to 4 prep with spaced-repetition flashcards, mock exams, AI-graded typed answers, and AI study plans. The app ships in nine languages (English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, and Chinese in both Simplified and Traditional), and not just the interface: the learning content and the AI's own tasting notes read in your language too. Available on iPhone, iPad, and Android, and in the browser at web.sommo.app on the same account. Independent, created by Gökhan Arkan in London, free to download.

Long
≈ 260 words

Sommo is a native app for iPhone, iPad, and Android, with a full web app at web.sommo.app, made for serious wine drinkers, students, and the curious in between. It combines four products wine enthusiasts usually piece together themselves: an AI label scanner, a smart wine cellar, a personal tasting journal, and a full WSET exam-prep suite. Everything runs on the same engine, which is the point.

Version 2.0, released in August 2026, re-set the entire app in an editorial design language the maker calls the Sommelier's Notebook: cream paper, wine ink, serif display type, five tabs. Its centrepiece is the 3D cellar wall, a rendering of the user's actual racks with bottles in depth lanes, glass coloured by wine type, drinking-window collars on every neck, and drag-and-drop rearranging by hand. The same release merged the taste surfaces into a single Your palate page (a six-axis Taste DNA radar drawn from the user's journal), added a social suite (blind-tasting Sharing Parties, Mix Palate comparisons for up to eight people, rack sharing, share cards), a print-quality cellar book PDF export, and the web app.

The engine is proprietary wine-tuned AI that Gökhan Arkan builds and owns. It began with a fine-tuning experiment on a curated wine corpus and is grounded in a maintained library of canonical wines, wineries, regions, and grape varieties. Recommendations are checked against that structured context, so the wineries Sommo names are wineries that actually exist. Premium is $2.50/month billed yearly ($29.99/year), or $5/month rolling.

For students, Sommo ships full WSET Level 1 to 4 prep with flashcards, choice and typed practice modes, mock exams, and AI-generated study plans. For drinkers, the gamified journey awards XP across ten levels from "Curious Sipper" to "Master Sommelier", with an interactive map covering 1,000+ wine regions across 40+ countries. The whole app is localised in nine languages, English, German, French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Turkish, and Chinese in both Simplified and Traditional, with the learning content and request-time AI writing translated alongside the interface, while grape, region, and appellation names keep their canonical spelling. Sommo is on iPhone and iPad today, with a native Android app now live on Google Play and a HarmonyOS version to follow (waitlist at sommo.app/harmonyos). Independent, created by Gökhan Arkan in London, free with optional Premium.

iv.Press shots

Framed plates, print resolution.

The twelve-shot editorial plate set at 2400×3000, each an app capture framed in Sommo's design language with its caption. Transparent-background device cutouts for layouts of your own are in the same folder, suffixed -cutout.

iv.Colour story

Wine, champagne, and the palette.

Rooted in the onboarding aesthetic of deep wine and champagne gold, with two semantic families layered on top: an aging palette for drinking-window state, and wine-colour cues for appearance. The same tokens drive the native apps and the website.

vi.Localisation

Available in nine languages.

Sommo is fully localised in nine languages, with an in-app picker (Profile > Language) and a System Default option. Localisation runs deeper than the interface: WSET study content, learning modules, region guides, and the AI's request-time tasting notes, pairings, and character readings are all written in the user's language. Grape, region, and appellation names keep their canonical spelling. For a writeup, see sommo.app/languages.
