Welschriesling is a white grape variety, with its roots in Neusiedlersee, Austria.
The wines show light body, no tannin, high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to green apple, pear, lemon, floral and herbal.
In the cellar it meets unoaked.
It is planted most seriously in Burgenland, Slavonija, Moravia and Nagy Somlo.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, productive vigour and a preference for warm and dry.
It blends readily with Chardonnay.
On other labels it goes by Riesling Italico, Grasevina, Grassica and Grašac.
At the table it suits dalmatian seafood stew (brodet), lemon pound cake and lime sorbet.
