Verdelho is a white grape variety, with its roots in Madeira, Portugal.

The wines show medium body, no tannin, medium-high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.

The tasting note runs to citrus, pear, apricot, stonefruit, lemon and leafy.

It is planted most seriously in Madeira and Hunter Valley.

In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, low to moderate vigour and a preference for benign and hotter climates.

It blends readily with Chardonnay and Semillon.

On other labels it goes by Verdelho Pico and Verdelho Branco.

At the table it suits fish tacos with cilantro, seared prawns with chili and smoked ham.
