Torbato is a white grape variety, with its roots in Sardinia, Italy.
The wines show medium body, no tannin, medium-high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to mineral, flint, smokiness, herbal, earth and spice.
It is planted most seriously in Alghero.
In the vineyard it is marked by late ripening, high vigour and a preference for mediterranean.
On other labels it goes by Tourbat, Torbato Bianco and Malvoisie du Roussillon.
At the table it suits bread with mushrooms and pecorino cheese, chargrilled chicken wings with herb salad and smoked trout terrine.
