The wines show medium-full body, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry and high alcohol.

The tasting note runs to berry, sweet spice, leather, tobacco, floral and herbal.

It is planted most seriously in Douro Valley.

In the vineyard it is marked by late ripening, high vigour and a preference for warm, dry climates.

It blends readily with Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca.
