Terret Noir is a red grape variety, with its roots in Languedoc-Roussillon, France.
The wines show light body, low tannin, medium acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to berry, citrus, floral and herbal.
It is planted most seriously in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, Corbières and Minervois.
In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening, medium vigour and a preference for warm.
It blends readily with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre.
On other labels it goes by Terret Bourret, Terret du Pays and Terre Chernyi.
At the table it suits grilled or baked eggplant dishes, couscous with braised vegetables and chicken or turkey sausages.
