Primitivo is a red grape variety, with its roots in Puglia, Italy.
The wines show full body, high tannin, medium acidity, dry and high alcohol.
The tasting note runs to blackberry, plum, cherry, spice, vanilla and pepper.
It is planted most seriously in Puglia.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, medium vigour and a preference for warm and dry.
On other labels it goes by Zinfandel, Crljenak Kastelanski, Pribidrag and Tribidrag.
At the table it suits spit-roasted lamb, lentil stew with bacon, barbecued meats and rich pastas.
