Pinot Noir - Zweigelt is a red blend rather than a single variety, with its roots in Central Europe, Austria.
The wines show medium body, medium-low tannin, medium-high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to cherry, raspberry, licorice, black pepper, strawberry and violets.
It is planted most seriously in Austria, Slovenia and Czech Republic.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, moderate vigour and a preference for temperate.
It blends readily with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Saint-Laurent and Blaufränkisch.
On other labels it goes by Zweigelt Pinot Noir.
At the table it suits roasted glazed ham, vietnamese-style duck pancakes and pesto and ricotta roulade.
