Pinot Blanc - Pinot Noir is a wine blend rather than a single variety, with its roots in Alsace, France.
The wines show medium body, no tannin, medium-high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to pear, cherry, strawberry, floral and citrus.
In the cellar it meets neutral oak and stainless steel.
It is planted most seriously in Alsace and Franciacorta.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, medium vigour and a preference for cool climate.
It blends readily with Chardonnay, Pinot Meunier, Pinot Gris and Riesling.
On other labels it goes by Pinot d’Alsace.
At the table it suits roast pork with carrots, oysters kilpatrick and salmon and dill quiche.
