Piedirosso is a red grape variety, with its roots in Campania, Italy.
The wines show full body, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to plum, cherry, brambly wild berry, espresso, mushroom and damp earth.
It is planted most seriously in Campi Flegrei, Taburno, Ischia and Vesuvio.
In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening.
It blends readily with Aglianico and Olivella.
On other labels it goes by Palombina, Pere’e Pallummo, Per’e Palumo and Strepparossa.
At the table it suits polpettone in crosta, grilled portobello mushrooms with mozzarella and thyme and cheese pizza.
