Picpoul Noir is a red grape variety, with its roots in Rhone Valley, France.

The wines show light body, medium-low tannin, high acidity, dry and high alcohol.

The tasting note runs to floral, citrus, berry, perfumed and spicy.

It is planted most seriously in Rhone Valley, Languedoc and Montsant.

In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening, medium vigour and a preference for warm.

It blends readily with Grenache, Syrah and Mourvedre.

On other labels it goes by Piquepoul Noir and Picapoll Negro.
