Petit Rouge is a red grape variety, with its roots in Valle d’Aosta, Italy.
The wines show medium body, medium-low tannin, medium acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to cherry, raspberry, strawberry, floral and herbal.
It is planted most seriously in Aosta Valley, Enfer d’Arvier, Torrette and Chambave.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, medium vigour and a preference for cool.
It blends readily with Gamay, Pinot Noir and Fumin.
On other labels it goes by Orion Gris, Oriou and Picciourouzzo.
At the table it suits milanese veal chop (cotoletta alla milanese) and lamb-stuffed courgettes (koosa bil ablama).
