Nero d’Avola - Syrah is a red blend rather than a single variety, with its roots in Sicily, Italy.
The wines show medium body, medium-high tannin, medium acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to dark berry, plum, cherry, spice, earth and oak.
It is planted most seriously in Sicily and Heathcote.
In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening, medium vigour and a preference for warm, mediterranean.
It blends readily with Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon.

At the table it suits sicilian eggplant and tomato stew (caponata), braised pork knuckle and chili con carne.
