Negroamaro is a red grape variety, with its roots in Puglia, Italy.
The wines show medium-full body, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to dark berries, earthy tones, ground brown spices, clove, cinnamon and allspice.
It is planted most seriously in Puglia.
In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening, drought-hardy vigour and a preference for warm mediterranean.
It blends readily with Primitivo, Malvasia Nera, Sangiovese and Montepulciano.
On other labels it goes by Nigramaro and Negro Amaro.
At the table it suits braised wild boar shanks, lamb rogan josh and spaghetti and meatballs.
