Muscat - Viognier is a white blend rather than a single variety, with its roots in Rhone Valley, France.

The wines show medium-full body, no tannin, low acidity, off-dry and medium alcohol.

The tasting note runs to apricot, peach, green melon, grapey and honey.

It is planted most seriously in South Africa, California, Texas and Bekaa Valley.

In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening, moderate vigour and a preference for warm climates.

It blends readily with Chardonnay and Grenache.

On other labels it goes by Muscat Viognier and Muscadelle Viognier.

At the table it suits provençal onion tart, chicken and avocado salad and dungeness crab on toast.
