Muscat of Alexandria is a white grape variety, with its roots in Alexandria, Egypt.
The wines show medium body, no tannin, medium acidity, sweet and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to orange blossom, peach, grapefruit, floral, herbal and spicy.
It is planted most seriously in Rutherglen, Setubal, Malaga and Pantelleria.
In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening, moderate vigour and a preference for warm.
On other labels it goes by Moscatel de Alejandria, Moscatel Gordo, Muscat Romain and Moscatel Romano.
At the table it suits glazed chestnuts, dulce de leche and white chocolate mousse with salted caramel.
