Muscadelle is a white grape variety, with its roots in Bordeaux, France.
The wines show medium body, no tannin, medium acidity, medium-sweet and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to floral, grape, raisin, caramel, butterscotch and dried fruits.
It is planted most seriously in Bordeaux, Victoria and Monbazillac.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, medium vigour and a preference for warmer climates.
It blends readily with Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc.
On other labels it goes by Sauvignon Vert, Topaque and Tokay.
At the table it suits steamed crabs (dry), pumpkin pie (sweet) and stilton blue cheese (fortified).
