Mencia is a red grape variety, with its roots in Bierzo, Spain.

The wines show medium body, medium tannin, medium-high acidity, dry and high alcohol.

The tasting note runs to red fruits, black fruits, earthy, vegetal and herbal.

It is planted most seriously in Bierzo, Valdeorras, Monterrei and Ribeira Sacra.

In the vineyard it is marked by late ripening, low vigour and a preference for moderate.
