Magliocco Canino is a red grape variety, with its roots in Calabria, Italy.
The wines show medium-full body, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry and high alcohol.
The tasting note runs to red fruits, soft spices, earthy and floral.
It is planted most seriously in Terre di Cosenza, Scavigna and Donnici.
In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening and relatively disease-resistant vigour.
It blends readily with Gaglioppo, Greco Nero and Aglianico.
On other labels it goes by Magliocco, Nocera, Magliuacculu and Guarnaccia Nera.
At the table it suits braciole di maiale alla calabrese, zucchinis stuffed with lamb and braised beef short ribs.
