Hondarrabi Beltza is a red grape variety, with its roots in Basque Country, Spain.
The wines show light-medium body, medium-low tannin, high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to cherry, raspberry, spice, earth, herbs and floral.
It is planted most seriously in Getariako Txakolina, Bizkaiko Txakolina and Arabako Txakolina.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, moderate vigour and a preference for cool maritime climate.
It blends readily with Hondarrabi Zuri.
On other labels it goes by Hondarrabi Beltza.
At the table it suits paprika-spiced sausage, spiced-beef empanada and pepperoni pizza.
