Grenache - Syrah

Grenache - Syrah is a red blend rather than a single variety, with its roots in Rhône Valley, France.

The wines show medium-full body, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry and medium alcohol.

The tasting note runs to stewed strawberries, raspberries, blueberry, licorice, dark chocolate and stewed plums.

It is planted most seriously in Rhône Valley, Priorat, Barossa Valley and California.

In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening and a preference for warm climates.

It blends readily with Mourvèdre.

On other labels it goes by Grenache and Garnacha.

At the table it suits roast leg of lamb with herb salad, cornish pasties and moroccan tagine.
