The wines show medium-full body, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry and medium alcohol.

The tasting note runs to black cherry, plum, spice, herbaceous, earthy and floral.

It is planted most seriously in Languedoc-Roussillon, Priorat and Côtes du Rhône.

In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, medium vigour and a preference for warm mediterranean.

It blends readily with Syrah and Mourvèdre.
