Grenache (Garnacha) is a red grape variety, with its roots in Rhône Valley, France.
The wines show medium-full body, medium-low tannin, medium-low acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to raspberry, spice, cooked fruit, tomato leaf and pepper.
In the cellar it meets new oak.
It is planted most seriously in Rhône Valley, Priorat and Barossa Valley.
In the vineyard it is marked by late ripening, vigorous vigour and a preference for arid climates.
It blends readily with Syrah and Mourvedre.
On other labels it goes by Grenache Noir, Garnacha Tinta, Garnatxa and Lladoner.
At the table it suits chargrilled meats, dishes with spice, lamb roasts and dark chocolate.
