The wines show medium body, medium tannin, medium-high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to blackberry, plum, cherry, herbaceous, spicy and earthy.
It is planted most seriously in Tuscany.
In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening, medium vigour and a preference for temperate.
It blends readily with Sangiovese and Colorino.

At the table it suits wild rabbit stewed with tomato, fried chicken livers and crumbed beef milanesa.
