Feteasca Neagra is a red grape variety, with its roots in Moldova, Romania.
The wines show medium-full body, medium tannin, medium acidity, off-dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to dark cherries, blackberries, plums, chocolate, smoky and spicy.
It is planted most seriously in Moldova.
In the vineyard it is marked by late ripening, medium vigour and a preference for resistant to cold and drought.
It blends readily with Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
On other labels it goes by Coada Randunicii, Feteaska, Fetyaska and Pasareasca.
At the table it suits spiced pork ribs, rogan josh lamb curry and black pudding.
