Cortese is a white grape variety, with its roots in Piedmont, Italy.
The wines show light body, no tannin, high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to apple, peach, honeydew, lime, almond and herbaceous.
It is planted most seriously in Gavi, Colli Tortonesi and Cortese dell’Alto Monferrato.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, vigorous vigour and a preference for warm.
It blends readily with Trebbiano and Garganega.
On other labels it goes by Cortese Bianco and Bianca Fernanda.
At the table it suits grilled prawns, pasta with basil and pine nuts and seafood laksa.
