Clairette is a white grape variety, with its roots in Rhone Valley, Languedoc, France.
The wines show light body, no tannin, medium-low acidity, dry and high alcohol.
The tasting note runs to apple, citrus and stonefruit.
It is planted most seriously in Rhone Valley and Languedoc.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, low vigour and a preference for warm.
It blends readily with Ugni Blanc, Terret Blanc and Grenache Blanc.
On other labels it goes by Clairette Blanche and Blanquette.
At the table it suits vietnamese rice paper rolls, grilled sardines and salmon terrine.
