Chardonnay - Vermentino is a white blend rather than a single variety, with its roots in Sardinia, Italy.
The wines show medium body, no tannin, medium-high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to citrus, tropical fruits, herbaceous notes, floral, herbal and spicy.
It is planted most seriously in Sardinia and Corsica.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, medium vigour and a preference for mediterranean.
It blends readily with Sauvignon Blanc, Verdejo and Grillo.
On other labels it goes by Rolle.
At the table it suits escargot with garlic butter, linguine alla vongole and stir-fried noodles with prawns.
