Chardonnay - Sauvignon Blanc is a white blend rather than a single variety, with its roots in Cheverny, France.
The wines show medium body, no tannin, medium-high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to citrus, stone fruit, herbal, buttery, melon and tropical fruit.
It is planted most seriously in California, Tuscany, Languedoc-Roussillon and South Africa.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, medium vigour and a preference for varied, thriving in cooler to moderate climates.
It blends readily with Semillon, Chenin Blanc and Garganega.
At the table it suits smoked salmon and avocado sushi, ceviche with cilantro and chili and oven-baked salmon with cherry tomatoes, broad beans and asparagus.
