The wines show medium body, no tannin, medium-high acidity, varies and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to citrus, stone fruits, apple, pear, floral and toast.
It is planted most seriously in Burgundy, Alsace, Franciacorta and Baden.
In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening, medium vigour and a preference for prefers moderate climates.
It blends readily with Pinot Noir.

At the table it suits shrimp dumplings, caviar on blinis and freshly shucked oysters.
