Cerceal is a white grape variety, with its roots in Dao, Bairrada, Tejo, Portugal.
The wines show light body, no tannin, high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to lime, grapefruit, honey, fennel, mineral and smoky.
It is planted most seriously in Dao, Bairrada and Tejo.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, medium vigour and a preference for temperate.
It blends readily with Bical, Baga and Encruzado.
On other labels it goes by Cercial and Sercial.
At the table it suits grilled cod with lemon, barbequed prawns with lime dressing and shaved fennel and gouda on toast.
