Catarratto is a white grape variety, with its roots in Sicily, Italy.
The wines show medium body, no tannin, low acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to lemon and neutral.
It is planted most seriously in Western Sicily, Alcamo and Etna.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, high vigour and a preference for warm and dry.
It blends readily with Inzolia, Grillo and Chardonnay.
On other labels it goes by Catarratto Bianco, Catarratto Bianco Comune, Catarratto Bianco Lucido and Catarratto Bianco Extra Lucido.
At the table it suits tuna salad, hainanese chicken rice and sautéed prawns with chili.
