Carignan - Grenache - Syrah is a red blend rather than a single variety, with its roots in Languedoc-Roussillon, France.
The wines show medium body, medium tannin, medium acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to bright berryfruit, bramble fruits, cherries, sweet spices, vibrant color and herbal notes.
It is planted most seriously in Languedoc-Roussillon and Catalonia.
In the vineyard it is marked by mid ripening, medium vigour and a preference for mediterranean climate.
It blends readily with Mourvèdre.
On other labels it goes by Cariñena, Garnacha and Grenache.
At the table it suits soup with pork, vegetables and beans, chilli con carne and lamb rack with aubergine purée.
