The wines show medium-full body, medium tannin, high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to pepper, berry, violet, peppery and floral.
It is planted most seriously in Piedmont.
In the vineyard it is marked by late ripening, medium vigour and a preference for temperate.
It blends readily with Barbera and Dolcetto.

At the table it suits veal tartare, lentil soup with smoked ham hock and pork tenderloin with balsamic glaze.
