Albarino (Alvarinho) is a white grape variety, with its roots in Galicia, Spain.
The wines show medium body, no tannin, high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to peach, citrus, melon, apricot, grassy and green notes.
It is planted most seriously in Rias Baixas, Vinho Verde and California.
In the vineyard it is marked by early ripening, medium vigour and a preference for maritime.
On other labels it goes by Alvarinho and Cainho Branco.
At the table it suits percebes (goose barnacles), paella with lobster and chorizo and green-lipped mussels grilled with parsley butter.
