Aglianico - Piedirosso is a red blend rather than a single variety, with its roots in Campania, Italy.
The wines show medium-full body, medium-high tannin, medium-high acidity, dry and medium alcohol.
The tasting note runs to dark cherry, plum, blackberry, herbs, spice and earth.
It is planted most seriously in Campania, Vesuvio DOC and Falerno del Massico.
In the vineyard it is marked by late ripening, medium vigour and a preference for warm and dry with some humidity.
On other labels it goes by Aglianico and Piedirosso.
At the table it suits eggplant and tomato pasta (pasta alla norma), szechuan tea-smoked duck and beef couscous with raisins.
