Levels 1 to 4, All in One App

Sommo covers the full WSET ladder. Each level has its own pool of flashcards and quiz questions, with the deepest coverage where students need it most.

• Level 1 (Wines) for fundamentals. Grape varieties, label terms, basic tasting vocabulary, food and wine principles.
• Level 2 (Wines) for the certification many take seriously. • Level 4 (Diploma) for the long game. Wine Production (VA thresholds, Brettanomyces, acid types, co-inoculation MLF), Wine Business (excise vs VAT, off- vs on-trade, co-operatives), Wines of the World (Hermitage Hill climats, Priorat terroir, Coonawarra terra rossa, Gimblett Gravels), sparkling categories (Crémant, English sparkling, Pét-Nat), and rare-wine topics (Colheita Port, Cream Sherry, VOS/VORS).

Content is regularly extended. The Level 2 pool was recently expanded by sixty flashcards and twenty-five quiz questions to give Level 2 candidates a depth comparable to a paid study guide.

Typed Answers, Graded by AI

Check the assessment format for your level. The official WSET Level 1 Award in Wines uses a closed-book exam with 30 multiple-choice questions. The WSET Level 2 Award in Wines uses 50 multiple-choice questions in a closed-book exam. For these levels, use Sommo’s typed answers to practise recalling and explaining concepts, alongside multiple-choice practice for the official exam format.

Flashcards with Spaced Repetition

The flashcard system uses the SM-2 algorithm, the same spaced repetition method behind tools like Anki. Cards cover key content for each WSET level: grape varieties and their characteristics, wine regions and appellations, winemaking processes, tasting vocabulary, and food pairing principles. Flip mode for quick recognition, Type mode when you want the AI examiner to grade your written recall.

Practice Quizzes and Timed Mock Exams

Study Strategy That Works

Here is a practical approach for WSET exam prep with Sommo:
