Import Your Wine Cellar and Notes

Your cellar, brought over.

Journal imports are free; cellar imports need Premium
Sommo web importer: choosing a CellarTracker export to upload, CSV or Excel up to 10 MB and 5,000 rows
i.What you get

Three things to walk away with.

01

Bring Your History

CellarTracker exports have their own preset. Any other spreadsheet, including a Vivino CSV, goes through column mapping you can adjust, into the cellar, the journal or both.

02

Nothing Saved Until You Confirm

Every row shows the wine, vintage, bottles and proposed action before you confirm. Rows are matched against your own wines, and a confirmed import can be undone.

03

Free Journal Import, Free Export

Uploading a file and a journal import are free on every plan. A cellar import needs Premium once you choose My cellar, at no extra charge. Export stays free on every plan.

ii.How it works

Step by step.

  1. Upload on the web

At web.sommo.app/import, choose CellarTracker or Spreadsheet and upload the file. Sommo offers the cellar, the journal or both based on your columns, and you choose.

  2. Answer a few questions

Tell Sommo how to read bottle sizes, currencies and date order, and remap any column it read differently.

  3. Review, then confirm

Check each row before anything is saved. Confirm to get a receipt, undo if you need to, and let AI fill in details for the new wines.

Sommo’s importer brings a wine collection in from CellarTracker or a spreadsheet, on the web at web.sommo.app/import. Cellar bottles, tasting notes or both: you check every row before anything is saved, and you can undo the import afterwards. Uploading a file and a journal import are free on every plan; a cellar import needs Premium once you choose My cellar, at no extra charge.

Import is on the web only for now. The iPhone and Android apps have no import option yet.

What You Can Bring In

  • CellarTracker exports. A dedicated preset reads CellarTracker’s export. CellarTracker’s help says exports come from its full desktop website, not the mobile app or mobile site (checked October 2026).
  • Any spreadsheet. Generic .csv and .xlsx files go through column mapping. That includes a Vivino CSV or a list rebuilt from Oeni. Neither app has a named preset, so you check the mapping and remap any column Sommo read differently.
  • Cellar, journal or both. Sommo offers the cellar, the journal or both based on your columns, and you choose. Current stock goes to the wine cellar; dated tastings and notes go to the journal.

Each file can be up to 10 MiB, 5,000 rows, 60 columns and 20 sheets, with up to 10,000 characters per cell, and every row needs a wine name. Older .xls files and password-protected files can’t be read. For the export steps in CellarTracker, Vivino and Oeni, follow the guide to switching wine cellar apps.

How an Import Works

  1. Choose the source and upload. Pick CellarTracker or Spreadsheet, then choose the file. Sommo offers the cellar, the journal or both based on your columns, and you choose.
  2. Answer a few questions. Bottle sizes, currencies and date order, so a magnum, a price in euros or a date like 03/04 reads the way you meant it.
  3. Review every row. Rows are matched with fixed rules against the wines already in your own Sommo account. Each row shows the wine from your file, its vintage, the bottles and the proposed action. If the draft isn’t right, discard it and start again.
  4. Confirm, with a receipt and undo. Nothing is saved until you confirm. You get a receipt, the import appears in your import history, and you can undo it. After you confirm, AI fills in the details for wines that are new to your account.

What Transfers, and How to Check It

The review is where you check what transfers: wine names, vintages, bottle counts and sizes, and the destination of each row. Sizes, prices and dates follow your answers to the questions, so read a few rows you know well before confirming. For a large collection, a small test file first is worth the extra minute. The switching guide walks through a short test and what to reconcile once the full file is in.

Free to Leave, Too

An importer is only half of the promise. Your data leaves Sommo as easily as it comes in. Full export as CSV (zip) or Excel (XLSX) is free on every plan, on iOS, Android and the web, and a full export includes your whole history, even on Free. It covers journal notes and their AI feedback, the cellar with racks, drinking windows and notes, label scans, tasting sessions, labels and rack layouts. Photos and WSET progress are not part of the export. The typeset cellar book PDF is Premium.

If you cancel Premium, your data is kept, not deleted. Only deleting your account removes your content. On Free, the journal shows the last 30 days of entries, counted from when each entry was added; older entries are kept, not deleted. Read why we built it this way in Your Wine Data Should Leave With You.

PDF Import Is Planned

The importer does not read PDFs yet; PDF import is planned. If your collection only exists as a PDF, such as the “Export for Insurance” file that Oeni’s help centre documents as its export (checked October 2026), rebuild the list as a spreadsheet for now: one row per wine, with the wine name on every row. The Oeni section of the switching guide has the details.

From People Who Have Imported

It was really easy and straightforward and gave me lots of control over what goes in.Leo
The import process went really smoothly, and I was able to bring over all tastings and notes without any issues.Leo
It works well, thanks a ton. The follow-up questions were also quite intuitive.Nitin, Singapore

Frequently asked.

01.
Can I import from Vivino?
+
Yes, as a spreadsheet. Export your data from Vivino's website, then upload a CSV from that export in Sommo's web importer and choose Spreadsheet. There is no Vivino preset, so check the column mapping and remap anything Sommo read differently before you confirm. The switching guide covers Vivino's export route.
02.
Does it work on iPhone or Android?
+
Not yet. Import is on the web only for now, at web.sommo.app/import, where you sign in with the same account you use in the app. The iPhone and Android apps have no import option yet.
03.
Is importing free?
+
Uploading a file and a journal import are free on every plan. A cellar import needs Premium ($4.99 a month or $29.99 a year) once you choose My cellar, at no extra charge.
04.
What happens to my data if I cancel?
+
It is kept, not deleted. Only deleting your account removes your content. On Free, the journal shows entries from the last 30 days, counted from when each entry was added to Sommo; that is a visibility window, not deletion. CSV and Excel export stay free on every plan, so you can take a full copy whenever you like.
05.
Can I import a PDF, for example from Oeni?
+
Not yet. PDF import is planned, and the importer does not accept .pdf files today. Oeni's documented export is a PDF (checked October 2026), so for now rebuild the list as a spreadsheet, one row per wine with the wine name on every row, and upload it as a Spreadsheet. The switching guide explains how.
06.
Can I undo an import?
+
Yes. Each confirmed import gives you a receipt and can be undone. Your past imports are listed in your profile on the web, at web.sommo.app/profile/imports.
07.
What file limits apply?
+
Files can be .csv or .xlsx, up to 10 MiB, 5,000 rows, 60 columns and 20 sheets, with up to 10,000 characters per cell, and every row needs a wine name. Older .xls files and password-protected files can't be read, so save them as .xlsx or .csv first.
